Tserof Sutef 《胎動森林》

Sound based 3D interactive experience
This project centers on a group of Chinese youth often referred to as “rooted nomads.”
They are emotionally anchored to their homeland, yet compelled by an urge to flee—shaped by shifting societal forces but constrained within the boundaries of tradition, unable to fully express or explore their inner worlds.

Drawing from the lived experiences of a generation coming of age in contemporary China, the project maps an emotional terrain defined by contradiction: the persistent pull of heritage and memory, countered by the desire for escape.
It invites viewers into a “virtual space of emotion and memory”—an immersive, interactive journey of self-reflection and identity exploration.

The work evokes a collective yet often unspoken state of being: the simultaneous act of looking back and trying to break free.

The artists use the image of a mother’s womb as a reflective metaphor. Within it, “I” remain unborn, while the outside world—its expectations, gazes, and dependencies—waits patiently.
How does the world reflect onto us, even before we have eyes to see it?
We are seen before we can see.
Defined before we can speak.
And ultimately—unable to resist.
