Gaze (side A&B)
This installation triggers sound through the act of touching floating eyeballs.
“Gaze” is an action that involves both the one who looks and the one who is being looked at—their energy, psychology, and emotional states. A gaze is therefore never one-sided; it is a continuous negotiation, a psychological “advance and retreat” between two parties, that’s what we defined in the installation as side A and side B.
In reality, most gazes carry unease or ill intent, shifting the boundaries between “the one who occupies” and “the one being occupied.” The gazer’s teasing or even unintentional attention can inflict profound psychological harm on the person being gazed at.
The first six sound patches (side A) in the work permeate the opposing pair across three layers: action, emotion, and aura.
Then, with the seventh patch (side B), all confrontation, emotions, and tensions are “reversed” and “dissolved,” transforming into an ambient pad that fades gently into the space. It symbolizes the moment when the one being gazed at releases self-defense and reconciles with their own sense of self.
